Dolly-Parton

Dolly Parton, born Jan. 19, 1946 in Locust Ridge Tenn. to a family of 12 poor children, who would all grow up as a unit eventually, realized very young how to overcome of the challenges she encountered through her large and vivid imagination. Before she learned to write and read, she was making up her own songs. Her first guitar purchase came when she was 8 and started singing at an Knoxville Tenn radio station at the age of 11. At the same time she made her debut album for Gold Band Records an independent small-scale label. The singer established a name for herself in the local scene while still at high school, but she always dreamed of having a larger stage. The day after she graduated in 1964 she moved to Nashville. Dumb Blonde, Something Fishy and Dumb Blonde both charted on Monument Records in 1967. Porter Wagoner had been looking for female performers to be a part of his syndicated show from the beginning. Parton took the job in 1966. She was then signed to RCA Records in 1968, and the Grand Ole Opry was founded in 1969. The show ended in 1974 when her solo music, including Joshua Coat of Many Colors and Jolene were out-charting their collaborations. Parton, after the split of their relationship with Wagoner she wrote the song"I'll Always Be Loved" by You and managed to make it the top spot at No. 1 for the very first time in 1974.
